Helping Your Belongings Survive the Summer Heat
Storage Tips For the St. George Heat
The summer months have come upon our storage units here in St. George, Utah. At times it can feel impossible to stay cool in the desert that we live in. If you have items in a storage unit currently, or you’re considering it, your items may be exposed to heat damage. But no need to worry, we have some tips to help you keep your belongings safe from the summer heat while they are in storage.
Dry Off Your Items
When you put your belongings in a confined space it’s important to make sure that everything is dry to avoid the growth of mold. Luckily, humidity isn’t much of a problem in St. George, so we don’t have to worry about that. But it’s always safe to take preventative measures and only put clean and dry items in your unit.
Leave Appropriate Space
Ventilation is the key to keeping your belongings safe in your unit over the summer months. The best way to create ventilation in your unit is to leave a significant amount of space between items. This will create a little air flow within your unit to keep items cool.
Avoid Storing Heat Fragile Items
There are certain items that you just shouldn’t be storing in a unit over the summer months. If at all possible make space in your home or office for these items. The heat can damage and in some cases destroy items such as those listed below.
Photographs
Electronics
Paintings
Family heirlooms or vintage items
Antiques
Wine
Fine linens or fine clothing
Valuable or old books
We hope that these tips can help you better prepare for all your summer storage adventures! If you have any more general questions about storage units in St. George feel free to give us a call.
