Prepare Your House for the Holidays

The holidays are supposed to be relaxing and fun, but sometimes they just end up being stressful. For some of us, the holiday season stretches from Halloween until New Year’s Day. That’s a whole lot of time for stress. If you want to make your holiday more relaxing and less stressful, it’s time to get your house in order. We’re here to supply you with tips on preparing yourself and your home for the chaos of the holidays.

Make a to-do list

Write down all of your holiday tasks in a notebook, smartphone app, bulletin board or whatever works best for you. Putting what you need to do in writing will make it seem more attainable and less overwhelming.

Set deadlines

Put a deadline to each of your to-do list tasks. Whether it’s taking family photos and mailing out holiday cards, baking goodies, cleaning the house or wrapping gifts, a deadline will make it easier to actually complete.

Put off big home projects

Thinking of renovating your kitchen? Wait until after the holidays. Most projects take longer than expected, so avoid stress and wait until after the New Year.

Take inventory

Before you buy large holiday decorations, take a look at what you already own. You’ll be surprised what you can find and save yourself wasted money.

Remember all of your gifts

If you’ve bought presents throughout the year, make sure you know where everything is. This way you’ll be prepared for gift wrapping. There’s no point in buying all those presents if you don’t give them.

Leave time for the day-to-day

While it’s easy to get swept up in shopping, socializing, decorating and baking, routine activities still exist. Things like making dinner, cleaning and doing laundry don’t disappear just because it’s the holiday season. If you want to simplify, cook easy dinners or hire a cleaning service.
